Why Did I Become An Usborne Consultant?

by | Home Management, Homeschool

Hello, there! My name is Kaycee Hobbs, and I am so glad you are here. I wear a lot of hats and so let me take a minute to introduce myself. My husband and I have adopted seven beautiful children and we have homeschooled them from the beginning of time.

I am also a blogger who loves to share ideas about what we do as a large family on our blog and on YouTube channels. We are fairly new at this gig and so we are learning as we go! It´s a journey for sure!

I am also an Independent Consultant with Usborne Books and More. I love their products and they inspire me to write and share lessons and unit studies with my children and our audience. Here is the real kicker… My children LOVE their books! That´s my favorite part!

However, that´s not all! Let me share with you the reasons why I joined the Usborne Team.

The Emphasis on Literacy

As a homeschooling mom of seven, I believe that a good book is the foundation for a good lesson. Whenever I am writing my unit studies, my first task is to find a book that will capture my child´s attention while whisking them away to places they have never been.

I also believe that if you teach a child to read, it is the first step in creating a lifelong love for learning. When a child can immerse themselves in a book, they can learn things on their own during their own time.

Usborne Books and More´s number one goal is to get books into the hands of children that they can read over and over again. They want a child to connect with the stories and characters so they will remember it for the rest of their lives.

The Books

That brings us to the books… Have you seen any Usborne books? They are amazing and I cannot keep my children´s hands off them. That´s the point, right?

The books are very well done, and they offer eye-catching illustrations while they explain popular topics and information. The kids want to pick them up and just devour them. Who am I kidding? I want to pick them up and devour them because they are not just enjoyed by the children.

They offer books for babies, toddlers, elementary age, middle school age, and high school age children. Here are the reading levels:

  • Babies and Toddlers
  • Preschool and Kindergarten
  • School Age and Up

Babies and Toddlers

These books are written and designed for children infant to 3 years. When we bring a baby home from the hospital, we immediately start reading to them. It is never too early!

Just a tip, if you have a child working on fluency, an infant makes for the perfect audience! There is no judgment, and they will either sleep or giggle their way through the story!

Babies will love looking at the bright pictures and exploring the pages in this delightful wordbook.

Join a host of friendly animals as they respond to various emergencies. With sturdy pages and colorful working wheels, this book feels like a toy which babies can play with as they follow the story.

Preschool and Kindergarten

These books are written with the child ages 3 to 6 years old in mind. I love using them to teach different concepts and character traits. They are hardy books and definitely stand up to the wear and tear those young ones put on them. They offer very engaging content, and my children beg for me to read to them all the time.

Here are some of our family favorites!

This comprehensive first reading library includes 50 books to guide your child through the first stages of reading and includes access to online resources. The first 22 books are taken from Usborne’s Very First Reading series. With these, your child takes the first steps in reading with your help, following the phonics methods used in schools. The next 12 books are taken from Usborne First Reading Level One. These delightful and truly short stories are for children to try reading themselves. 16 further books are taken from Usborne First Reading Level Two. These slightly longer stories will build stamina and reading confidence. Includes QR Codes.

A colorful book with over 60 flaps to lift to teach little children about opposites in a fun way. Pages include colorful scenes at the park, in the ocean, in the jungle, and more. Each flap has its opposite hiding behind it. Bright illustrations of large and small parrots, high and low swings at the park and hot and cold picnic foods make the opposites clear and give pre-readers lots to spot and talk about.

School Age and Up

This category features books geared for children over the age of five. However, I am finding the books to be universal in age because the books can be enjoyed with the help of a parent or an older sibling. If a book has age-appropriate content, then I will read it aloud to them.

Here are some of our favorites:

Bear Grylls Adventures Complete Collection

This collection includes the following titles: Blizzard Challenge, Cave Challenge, Desert Challenge, Earthquake Challenge, Jungle Challenge, Mountain Challenge, River Challenge, Safari Challenge, Sea Challenge, and Volcano Challenge.

Series: Bear Grylls Adventures
You’re given a magical compass and suddenly you’re no longer at outdoor camp but in an amazing place in the world – with Bear Grylls as your guide!

Inventions Scribble Book

This scribble-in activity book will help children develop their creativity as well as learn lots about engineering, science, technology, and math! It’s full of problems to solve, concepts to explore, and things to invent, design, and create!

The Schedule

Usborne Books and More encourages you to host book parties and share their books with your friends. I really enjoyed learning about their books. My friends loved the experience too! When you host a party, you get FREE books, and this is a huge perk for everyone.

Most consultants pick a couple of evenings a week to host their book bashes. I encourage you to set aside a specific evening in your week so that you know those are the nights you will be partying. I find it to be a lot less complicated for both my family and me if I know ahead of time what is expected.

Now, there is some preparation time before the party. Most of us consultants work in pockets of time throughout the week as we need too.

The preparation which I mentioned above includes building relationships with your customers and team, following up to make sure the orders met their expectations, and creating the actual events. I have found that making small consistent steps has been the best way to grow my business.

The Commission

Now, this is the part that you have been wondering about, right? How much will I make? The rate of commission is 25% on your direct sales. If you sell $1,000 then you get an additional 4% bonus. When you become a team leader, you have the chance to make even more. In my first month, I earned $400 which was much more than I had anticipated.

No Inventory Required

You do not have to purchase inventory to resale. That´s what I love about this! The customer places the order and then it is shipped directly to them from Usborne Books and More! I don´t handle the product at all and the only time I get to see it is when my customer sends me their pictures. I love seeing those!

My Own Website

When you join Usborne as an Independent Consultant, they will give you your own e-commerce storefront. You can send your customers to your store with confidence that it will answer their questions and you will also get the credit for any purchases they make.

It is the perfect way for everyone including you to obtain product knowledge and build wish lists for your customers.

My Personal Book Library

One of my favorite things is that I get to build my own personal book library for my family to enjoy. Usborne Books and More offers a variety of book credits as incentives. This gives you the opportunity to see what books your own kiddos love and want to read. Then it is amazingly easy to simply share the product with your customers because you see how it has impacted your own family.

Would You Like to Join My Team?

Yes! I am currently looking for people who share my passion for books and teaching children to read. My homeschool is based on literacy and I want people who share the same goals as I do.

How do I get started?

There are two options:

  1. $25 New Consultant Mini Kit
  2. $99 New Consultant Kit

You can choose whichever option works into your budget. However, I started with the $25 New Consultant Mini Kit which had several free books, a catalog, and a $15 book credit for a book of my choice.

I made a video of the “ünboxing”, if you would like to see what a kit looks like.

Do you have questions?

Are you nervous? I know I was! Don´t worry, we will be close by to help you! If you have additional questions, please feel free to fill out this form. It will get you into direct contact with me so I can answer them for you.

Thanks for reading! I appreciate you being here and can´t wait to see you on this journey with me!
