CREW-DUCTION: MEET THE HOBBS crew

We are a large homeschooling family who have 7 children through adoption.

We want to share our story and experiences to encourage others. We aim to thrive not just survive!

Hello! My name is Kaycee Hobbs and I would love to introduce you to our crew. Who are we? Whew! That’s a loaded question because we are a lot of things. We are BIG family with 7 kiddos. I often joke that they just kept coming. Before we go any further, yes, we know how that happens, ADOPTION. If you ask our kiddos what adoption means to them they will say “It means you become a part of the family.” We began fostering and went from 1 kiddo to 5 kiddos in exactly one year. Talk about a lifestyle change! It was overwhelming and beautiful all at the same time. We have since “retired” as foster parents but it is a cause that continues to be very close to our hearts.

Ok, back to the original question….. We are a family of nine. My husband and I have been married for over 20 years and we have seven children- Sam (16), Bella (10), Andy & Alex (9), Randa (8), Nikki (5), and Georgie Lou (3). Things get pretty chaotic around here as we all learn and grow but we aim to thrive and not just survive.

We learn together

Yes, I’m the crazy one who keeps my kiddos home with me all the time. We are homeschoolers and it is our goal for them to develop a love for learning and we even encourage them to ask why. Of course, we want them to learn their ABC’s and 123’s but we also want them to discover their own “superpowers” God specifically gave to them. It brings tears to my eyes when I see their eyes light up and they become so engaged in what they are learning.

We adventure together

We love to try new things and be adventurous. One of the ways we explore and make memories together is through travel. We have explored several parts of the continental USA. We tie this directly into our learning by studying a topic, place or person and then take a “field trip” to experience what we have learned. It’s been a great way to learn history among other things!

We work together

I’m not raising a small army for nothing because having a large family is a lot of work. We want our children to learn they have to work hard for what they want in life. I’ve always made it my mission to include them in every area of our home life. Now, I do admit, I still do all the laundry because I’m just not ready to give that up yet. I pick my battles.

We do hard things together

Raising 7 kiddos is not for the faint of heart and raising adopted kiddos brings it’s own set of special and unique challenges. Striving to thrive and not just survive requires lots of planning and hard work. It’s not always what you do, it’s how you do it. We know God has called us to raise this family and we couldn’t do these hard things without Him.

It’s a family thing!

So, please, join us on our journey as we grow, struggle and attempt to figure life out!
